A Responsibility

Bob Rotella once said that you have a responsibility for how you talk to yourself and how you think. I always have agreed with this deep down, but I have never taken this responsibility seriously nor made a sincere attempt at it. Whether it is unconscious or conscious, I have talked to myself like shit most of my life. Today I ask myself if I care enough to change and take on Rotella’s responsibility in all its ways, and my answer is a resounding YES. And I don’t think I can ever go back now.
And yes, much of it is unconscious. I will slip. And maybe it is something we can never fully defeat, but I’m going to do my best to pick myself up each time I fall and get better and better.
It is a responsibility. One that I don’t want to shy away from anymore. It is a responsibility of love and honor. I have mostly not treated myself in an honorable way or been loving towards myself. Love means no conditions. If you value and honor love, then how you treat yourself (and others and the world) and how you think (about yourself, others, and the world) are simple and easy.
